The Swindon Down’s Syndrome Group are a local charity founded in 1984, run by volunteers. They support people with Down’s syndrome and their families. Currently they support over 100 families who live in Swindon and surrounding areas.

Their purpose is to help people with Down’s syndrome to have the same opportunities as everyone else. Support is offered from the moment a child is born right through to adulthood and beyond. One of the ways that they do this is by connecting people to essential services and even provide free weekly speech and language therapy. A £10 donation would pay for a week’s speech and language therapy for one child with Down’s syndrome. One of the greatest barriers for someone with Down’s syndrome in accessing their local community is a difficulty with speech. The Swindon Down’s Syndrome Group aim to break down that barrier.

Regular activities for people with Down’s syndrome are provided. Giving them a great opportunity to socialise and make friends. From term time football training to weekly tennis sessions; fortnightly and holidays swimming sessions to a Salamander Fire Course, plus regular parties and family days out.
