Friends of Swindon Museum and Art Gallery.

The Friends of Swindon Museum and Art Gallery is a registered charity run by volunteers who work to help promote and support Swindon Museum and Art Gallery to as wide an audience as possible.
We’ve been doing that since 1993 when our patron, the surrealist painter and zoologist, son of Swindon Dr Desmond Morris, launched the Friends at a gathering of 160 guests.

The Friends of Swindon Museum and Art Gallery (FSMAG) uses events, activities and organised excursions to raise funds. In liaison with the museum staff we buy new artworks and items for the museum or fund conservation of particular pieces.

It’s not as well-known as it should be that Swindon is in possession of an important collection of 20th century art as well a fascinating and eclectic local museum collection. It ranges from Roman pots to an early fire engine to Garrard record decks and Bluebird Toys.
Not forgetting, of course, the gharial (freshwater crocodile) known to generations of Swindonians.
