Coate Water Swindon

Coate Water Swindon

Coate Water Swindon, is a Country Park near the centre of the town. It is popular with locals and out-of-town visitors. One reason is because it has a big lake where you can feed the ducks, or go for a nice walk, enjoying the scenery. Which is stunning! You may want to play a round of mini-golf. Maybe you’d like to take a dip in the splash park or a ride on the mini steam train.

The lake is famous for it’s big diving board. Unfortunately, it is no longer in use. But it is something that is featured in a lot of photos that we share, as part of our #PositiveSwindon campaign.

There are plenty of benches for you to sit on and take in the peaceful surroundings. The café near the entrance to the park sells ice creams. Or you can choose from other treats to make your visit even more enjoyable.

Swindon’s Richard Jefferies Museum.

Next door to Coate Water you’ll find the Richard Jefferies Museum. This 17th-century thatched cottage is where the esteemed Victorian writer grew up. Jefferies was born in the old farmhouse in 1848. He had a lifelong passion for nature. It was something that he often wrote about it in his published works. They included newspaper articles, essays and children’s books.

“A very nice walk around the lake. Was extremely hot but most of the path was cover by trees so was excellent. This park is open all the time. Saw people out for the day with BBQs. Lovely area. Well recommended.”

“This is a well maintained park. Lovely for a family day out. They have picnic tables near the lake. And you can feed the ducks and geese here. There is alot of open space for kids to run and play.”

“First time I’ve been here, and I must say, it’s a lovely place to bring your family! Food stall is very well priced, and they have the option for bird seed to feed the geese and ducks. Lovely walk around the lake, nice wooded areas, and quite a few seats around too.”
