Coate Water Swindon, is a Country Park near the centre of the town. It is popular with locals and out-of-town visitors. One reason is because it has a big lake where you can feed the ducks, or go for a nice walk, enjoying the scenery. Which is stunning! You may want to play a round of mini-golf. Maybe you’d like to take a dip in the splash park or a ride on the mini steam train.

The lake is famous for it’s big diving board. Unfortunately, it is no longer in use. But it is something that is featured in a lot of photos that we share, as part of our #PositiveSwindon campaign.

There are plenty of benches for you to sit on and take in the peaceful surroundings. The café near the entrance to the park sells ice creams. Or you can choose from other treats to make your visit even more enjoyable.

Next door to Coate Water you’ll find the Richard Jefferies Museum. This 17^th-century thatched cottage is where the esteemed Victorian writer grew up. Jefferies was born in the old farmhouse in 1848. He had a lifelong passion for nature. It was something that he often wrote about it in his published works. They included newspaper articles, essays and children’s books.
